- Sanctity of Human Life Sunday 2024
Happy New Year! With the new year comes a special day we want to recognize here at Door of Hope and want you to join us as we do so. Sunday, January 21st is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. In 1984 President Ronald Reagan issued a presidential proclamation designating Sunday, January 22 as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. In the 1983 essay published in the Human Life Review president Reagan wrote, “We cannot diminish the value of one category of human life - the unborn - without diminishing the value of all human life.” He recognized that all human life had intrinsic value. Not only the unborn human, but the newborn with special needs to the most vulnerable senior adults. Genesis 1:27 states God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them. During this time of acknowledging this day, let us not limit the scope to the unborn, but be reminded that all humans are created by God. They are our neighbors who we are commanded to love. Let us all be inspired by President Reagan’s conviction and persistence in protecting the rights of all image bearers. WHAT CAN YOU DO? Become a Door of Hope Supporter. Whether that be through monetary donations or in-kind donations. This support is vital to us providing resources to our neighbors that are in need. Consider Volunteerism. Door of Hope is always in need of volunteers in several areas. It could be a blessing closet worker, who sorts and organizes the donations for the baby store, or an office assistant, to answer phones and do general office work, or mentoring a mom and dad as they walk through parenthood. Door of Hope has partnered with the City of Madisonville and Knights of Columbus to build a Safe Haven Baby Box in one of our local fire stations. We are raising money to provide this anonymous safe surrender option to women in crisis. On Tuesday, January 23rd, in Frankfort, the Kentucky March of Life will be taking place. This would be a wonderful opportunity for making your voice heard in protecting human life. And lastly, but certainly not least, PRAY. Pray for our local, state, and federal leaders. Pray for pregnancy care workers as they are in the trenches of meeting needs. Pray for your neighbors and community. Thank you for taking the time to listen, and God bless you and your family!
